The Lalbhai Dalpatbhai Museum is located in the premises of the L.D. Institute of Indology, Ahmedabad. It is situated on a sprawling campus in the western part of the city in an area dotted with educational and research institutes, and in the vicinity of Gujarat University. It is about 7 kilometers from the Railway Station, 6 kilometres from Ahmedabad city central bus station (Gita Mandir - GSRTC) and 12 kilometers from the Airport.

The museum is open on all days, except on Mondays and public holidays, from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Educational Visit
Visiting museum with your school/colleges/institute students is a good idea, It's the best way to connect your students with own culture and history. Guided tours are available for this kind of educational visits, for that you need to inform us your 1st, 2nd and 3rd choice of date and time, number of students and adults, name of galleries you want to visit, access or special requirements in advance (in case of cancellation, please make sure to inform us prior).


Getting Here

Lalbhai Dalpatbhai Museum is about 7 kilometres from the Railway Station, 6 kilometres from Ahmedabad city central bus station (Gita Mandir - GSRTC) and 12 kilometres from the Airport.

If you are traveling by AMTS/GSRTC Bus, nearest bus stop is 'PWD Workshop' and 'Gujarat University GSRTC Bus Stop'. From Ahmedabad city central bus station (Gita Mandir - GSRTC) bus frequency is quite good, one can get bus every 10 minutes.
If you are travelling by BRTS (Janmarg), nearest bus stop is 'University Bus- Stop', you will get BRTS bus every 15-20 minutes for 'University Bus-Stop' during working hours.

Museum is centrally located in city thus local public transportation like auto-rickshaw and taxi are easily available and you can reach museum in maximum 15-20 minutes from anywhere in city.

The Museum is committed to being a visitor-friendly place and creating a comfortable, well-facilitated environment to offer visitors a wholesome experience. The following facilities are available at the Museum.

Information Kiosks
Interactive kiosks are positioned within various galleries to facilitate extended information about the Museum, collections and the donors in the respective galleries.

Museum Shop
Contribute towards promotion of Indian culture through different art materials. There is a wide range of books published by the Museum and other renowned publishers. The Shop also displays different articles such as greeting cards, other objects inspired by design/details of the art objects from Museum collection etc. Pick up some unique gift items as a memoir of your visit to the Museum.

Guided Tours
Guided tours are available for school/colleges/institute educational visits, for that you need to inform us your 1st, 2nd and 3rd choice of date and time, number of students and adults, name of galleries you want to visit, access or special requirements in advance (in case of cancellation, please make sure to inform us prior).

Lost & Found
Lost or found objects may be deposited at the Museum office on the Ground Floor. Visitors must take care of their personal belongings. The Museum is not responsible for loss of belongings.

Baggage Counter
The museum has baggage counter for visitors to store belongings. Big bags, water bottles, packages are not allowed inside the Museum for safety reasons. The baggage counter is a safe place to store these while you enjoy your visit.

Friends of Museum

Friends of Museum

A forum called 'Friends of Museum Society' has been formed with an objective to encourage art lovers to participate voluntarily with the Museum for the revival and appreciation of the cultural heritage of our country. Those who wish to take life-time membership of this forum, may enroll their names by paying an enrolment fee of Rs.500.

Each year the L.D. Museum & N.C. Mehta Gallery arrange L.D. Museum Lecture Series on topics related to Art, Ancient Culture, History and Heritage, besides the Annual N.C. Mehta Memorial Lecture on Indian Painting. The Friends of Museum Society members are invited, and may take further initiative in the following:

• Join us as Volunteer in events and for Gallery Guided Tours.
• Organizing activities in the Museum related to above mentioned areas for School and College students, besides Citizen Groups.
• To take initiative in monetary donations to meet the expenditure on projected activities.
• Influential members are invited to secure gifts and donations of art objects to expand the collections of the L.D. Museum so that it emerges as one of the leading museums in our country.
• Right of Free access to Museum's Art Reference Library.
• Get Additional 5% discount on purchase of our publications from the Museum Sale Counter.
• Free Registration to participate in the Museum Activities.
• Reservation Seats as Very Important Person in Museum organized Events and Activities.
