About the film

Among the various films made by the renowned filmmaker Mrinal Sen, Bhuvan Shome (1969), financed by the Government of India, was a landmark film for its innovation and experimentation, paving the way for the Indian New Wave Cinema Movement. In 2013, the Films Division, a Government of India undertaking, decided to make a documentary about Mrinal Sen. Officials from the Films Division visited Mrinal Sen’s house in Kolkata to officially propose the project, accompanied by R.V. Ramani.

R.V. Ramani An award-winning cinematographer and filmmaker, R.V. Ramani is an alumnus of FTII, Pune. With more than 25 independent films to his credit, he has developed a unique style of film-making which is deeply personal and impressionistic. His films reflect on various aspects of expression, introspecting his own expositions and practice. Ramani is currently working on many long documentaries, conducts regular film-making workshops at many Institutions.

Prime Habitare, meaning ‘Residence for the wise ones’, aims to foster collaboration and growth among artists, designers, architects, philosophers, literary scholars, and more. Located in Jaipur, it provides a platform for art and design activities that encourage meaningful cultural dialogue.

Kathalok is a production unit based in Pune that focuses on independent and debut filmmakers, student projects, and regional cinema. By supporting and producing short fiction films and documentaries, Kathalok values creativity and the voice of individual expression.
