Power has always been organized around symbols and instruments of control. Through these symbols, rulers communicate with their public and express their presence throughout their empire. Art and the monetary system are two such symbols of direct communication between the Imperial rulers and its people. A modest attempt is made to illustrate the presence of the Mughal rule through some lesser known painted portraits of the imperial Mughals alongside some coins of Gujarat in circulation during their rule, from the collection of the Lalbhai Dalpatbhai Museum.
