About the workshop:
Enclosing the dynamic miniature paintings is a structured world of order. This workshop explores the 'grammar' of that order, beautifully illustrated through ornate geometric borders. Through a series of live demonstrations, participants gain insight into the principles, techniques, and methods that shape these intricate patterns. They not only learn to design their own patterns but also develop the skills to continue exploring independently.

Surabhi Kochar’s artistic practice explores the profound connection between geometry, traditional techniques and the patterns found throughout our world. This has led her to exploration and study of the arts of ancient Islamic lands, including India in the 17th–19th centuries. Inspired by the concept that 'math is the language of the universe,' she employs a multidisciplinary approach to the study and creation of patterns using age-old practices of drawing with a compass and straightedge. Her fascination with intricate and delicate details manifests in meditative pieces, inviting immersion, contemplation and a journey inward.
